Get to Know the Basic Features You Need to Look out in Your New Pet Before You Decide to Bring it Home
1. Size of Your Pet
You should select baby or young dragons as they make the best pets. An ideal pet would be one that is ten to sixteen inches in length. You should avoid adult or mature dragons especially if they are picked up from the wild. They have more health issues and are fussy. Baby dragons are easier to tame therefore you are less likely to face problems with your new pet.
2. Health of the Dragon
Your pet should be very active and alert when you see it for the first time. You should prefer selecting one with slightly rounded body and tail. It is good that your dragon looks filled but there should no signs of swelling. You should also feel your dragon to identify bumps or swollen regions that can be a signal for serious medical problems.
Apart from the tail and body, you need to have a close look at your pet’s snout and mouth. You should look for white patches or deposits along the jaw line. Your pet’s snout needs to be clear and should have no signs of cuts, bruises or damage. If you see any signs of swollen snout, pus or discolored deposits, the pet is not healthy. You also need to look at the dragon’s vent and rule out chances of smeared diarrhea.
If your pet is unhealthy, may be this was not the one for you. You should continue your hunt for a healthy pet so that it adjusts well to its new home.
3. Physical Characteristics
Your dragon should have a bright green color and show no signs of intimidation. Dragons that are sick or stressed have dull and dark skin. If your pet has dark brown skin and appears bored, it can be an indication that the dragon is stressed and unhealthy. Dragons with warm green color which appear relaxed should be the one you should seek to bring home.
4. Always Buy from a Reputed Seller or Breeder
You will come across several pet stores and breeders that offer Chinese water dragons for sale. However, you should always do your part of research and buy your pet from a reputed seller or breeder. Buying from a reputed source ensures that your pet will be healthy and stress free at least to some degree.
