Setting the Ideal Enclosure
Chinese water dragons are arboreal creatures and love to stay at the top. They do well in tall enclosures that have plenty of branches to climb on. Water dragons don’t only need height but also require a tank to have sufficient length. Ideally, size of the enclosure you choose should be twice the size of your pet dragon. You need even larger tanks if you plan to house multiple dragons in one enclosure.
If you talk about the ideal size of an enclosure, it needs to be minimum six feet tall. It should also measure six feet in length and be three to four feet deep. You must ensure that the enclosure is large enough to maintain basking or hiding areas. You also need to maintain a separate feeding area so it is a good idea to choose a large tank.
Juvenile or baby dragons can do well in smaller tanks but you need to get a bigger enclosure when your dragons get older. It is better you invest your money and efforts to setup a large tank that closely resembles the natural habitat of Chinese water dragons.
Most Popular Plant Décor for Dragon Enclosure
There are many options when you look to decorate your pet’s enclosure. Adding live plants is a popular option because it makes the tank more lively and exciting. Chinese water dragons love to climb live plants and branches. Live plants are also useful in maintaining humidity in the tank. You should be cautious before you place live plants in the dragon’s enclosure.
You must ensure that the species you use are non-toxic to reptiles and free from pesticides. It is good to be safe than regret later. If you are not sure about the plants, it is better you use artificial plants and foliage.
Even artificial plants and branches make the dragons feel secure in their new environment. Fake plants and barks are also easy to clean and replace. They also pose less threat of the dragon getting injured due to accidental ingestion. You can have a water pool in the tank for your pet to enjoy swimming and soaking.
Basking areas are also important for Chinese water dragons. These areas are used by your dragon to hide if it feels insecure. You can use live or artificial plants to make the basking areas comfortable.
