Chinese water dragons grow healthy in warm and humid areas therefore it is essential that you maintain proper heat in their enclosure. Water dragons love warm environments so it is recommended that you get a couple of basking lamps. You can use a bright light for the purpose. To provide the right amount of heat you can buy regular bulbs with different wattages. These bulbs may get quite hot so it is important that your dragon has no contact with the heat sources.
Ceramic heat emitters or bulbs are also good options to provide heat. Dragon owners prefer these bulbs because they do not emit light. You can use ceramic emitters to warm the enclosure especially at night. These bulbs also get hot and cause severe burns if your lizard comes in contact with them. You should use heat lamps or bulbs in such a way that your pet comes no where close to the wires or the heating element.
If you want to provide heat, and at the same time don’t wish to trouble your pet at night, you can use a nocturnal bulb that is available easily at most pet stores. The only thing you should avoid is placing hot rocks in the dragon’s enclosure. Hot rocks can be extremely deadly for your pet as they are known to cause severe burns. If you already have a hot rock, you need to position a thermometer to make sure the rocks are not too hot for your pet.
